WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE REIKI THERAPY?
Reiki therapy is always carried out with you fully clothed but without any footwear. You will lie initially on your back on a Reiki couch and have a blanket placed over you for comfort. Relaxing music will played throughout the therapy unless you would prefer silence. Reiki therapy generally lasts around 60 minutes. The Reiki practitioner will lay her hands gently on specific energy points but if you would prefer no contact at all then just request it. Moving around the body the Reiki practitioner will continue to place her hands on you until the end of the therapy.
WHAT DOES REIKI THERAPY FEEL LIKE?
Reiki therapy feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit, creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being. The experience of Reiki is subjective and changeable with some reporting dramatic miraculous feelings and others describing it as very subtle or even eventless; often feeling the effects some time later. Clients often experience heat emanating from the Reiki practitioner's hands, but sometimes her hands feel refreshingly cool. Other common experiences are subtle pulsations where the Reiki practitioner's hands are placed or cascading waves of pulsations throughout the body. Some clients have reported a feeling of hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, simultaneously aware of their surroundings and deeply indrawn. Some clients fall into a deep, sleeplike meditative state. Regardless, clients always comment how comforting they find the experience of Reiki to be with the most common experience being an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.

WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is a safe, gentle, non intrusive hands-on healing technique which uses energy to treat the body and mind. This method of energy healing was rediscovered in the mid 1800’s by Japanese scholar Mikao Usui. Mikao gave Reiki its name having realised he had the ability to channel energy with remarkable results: Reiki translates as universal life force energy. Mikao taught the technique to some 20 students and the therapy now spans the world. To those who have experienced it, it’s described as out of this world.
Reiki energy is different from conventional direct energies like electricity, chemical or other physical energy’s. It is more akin to light; something that is transmitted throughout the universe and has the power to warm, feed and nurture directly. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE REIKI THERAPY?
Your Reiki practitioner will offer you a glass of water and give you time to waken fully. Do not expect a diagnosis as that is not part of Reiki therapy. You will know how you feel and some of the effects may be felt later that day and for days after.
HOW WILL YOU FEEL AFTER THE REIKI THERAPY?
Besides the immediate experience of the Reiki therapy like calmness and mental clarity, you may notice other changes that continue to unfold as the day goes on like mental clarity, stronger digestion, a sense of being more centered and poised, less reactive and often sleepy. Sleepiness is not viewed as an adverse reaction, but rather as the body's natural healing response and something to be heeded.
WHAT IS THIS REIKI HEALING CRISIS I HAVE HEARD OF?
A Reiki healing crisis is where the symptoms a client is wanting to get rid of, or control, actually feel like they are worsening! Before you are put off by Reiki therapy, please read on as a Reiki healing crisis is a good thing and part of the healing process.
A Reiki healing crisis can happen to anyone being treated with Reiki therapy and is more frequently experienced by those having their first Reiki therapy. That said, everyone is different: Some Reiki therapy clients may never experience a healing crisis at all, some only initially or only after prolonged periods away from Reiki therapy, others may have more frequent healing crisis’s.
Heightening of symptoms following Reiki therapy is temporary and almost always due to a Reiki healing crisis. It is an indication that your system is rebalancing and clearing away that which does not serve its purposes any longer. To explain why this may happen, imagine you plan to clean out a cupboard or room and reorganise all the contents neatly. This process will initially create more mess – temporary disorder – as you remove the contents. As you sort through them you will undoubtedly discover things you are no longer use, need or want in your life. These things have to be removed – purged – completely before you continue. Once you have done that, you can place the remaining contents neatly back where you would like them. The temporary disorder was absolutely necessary for the reorganisation to take place. This is the Reiki healing crisis.
What you must remember is that Reiki therapy continues to work towards your healing long after you have left the clinic. Reiki energy is an intelligent energy that works in harmony with your natural energy and knows where it needs to go and for how long to achieve the correct balance.
Aside from a slight worsening of symptoms you may feel very tired in the 12 to 48 hours after Reiki therapy. You may feel you need to urinate or move your bowels more frequently. You may feel more emotional. You may feel as if you are coming down with a cold or flu for a few hours or up to a day. PURE remind you it is important to follow the needs of your body. If rest is what the body needs, rest should be taken. Your system is healing and this can be hard work, so it’s a good idea to support the process. Pure recommend you drink plenty of water.

Clients often describe sleeping really well after Reiki therapy so prepare for it and enjoy it. PURE recommend taking extra water.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE REIKI THERAPY?
As often as you feel you need. Reiki therapy is cumulative and even people who don't notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences when they continue.
